KAKABHUSANDI

                       KAKABHUSANDI

KAKABHUSANDI
Kakbhusundi is a enlightened soul in the form of a Crow. He spent nearly 27 Kalpas in Nilgiri mountain enchanting the name of Shree Rama and teaching Shree Rama's glories to his fellow birds & Garuda, the celestial eagle (the vehicle of Shri Vishnu).

Hindu mythology inscribes that when Satidevi left her secular body by committing self immolation in the Yagya of Dakshya Prajapati; Lord Shiva became furious and sent his Gana to punish Dakshya. His Gana destroyed Yagya and beheaded Dakshya, the father of Satidevi. However, he couldn't bear the sorrow of separation with his beloved Satidevi, so was wandering aimlessly in the mountain. One day, he reached to a beautiful lake near the Nilgiri mountain where there were three trees in the bank; a Banyan tree, a fig tree and a Pakar tree. There were thousands of birds in the trees; and a crow was narrating them the divine tales of Bhagawan Shree Rama. Seeing this extremely religious and virtuous soul in the form of a crow, Lord Shiva decided to stay there for some time in the lake. He then took a form of a Swan and spent some day there, then returned to Kailash.

In the Kaliyuga of previous Kalpa, Kak Bhusundi was born in Ayodhya in a Shudra family. He was a very strict devotee of Lord Shiva but he had a very bad manner of disrespecting other deities. Once, Ayodhya had faced an extreme problem of precipitation & starvation, so Bhusundi moved to another place (Ujjain), where he encountered a Vedic Brahman who was a devotee of Lord Shiva too. The Brahmin provided him a shelter and kept him as servant. The preceptor bestowed Kak Bhusundi the Shiva-Mantra. The preceptor gave him advice several times not to disrespect other deities and change his way. But, this didn't work to him. One day, Kak Bhusundi was praying to Lord Shiva in the temple, by then the preceptor entered, Kak Bhusundi didn't bother to stand up and pay him honor while preceptor was coming in. Seeing his arrogance Lord Shiva became very angry to him, so he decided to punish him for his foolishness. All of sudden a loud voice came from nowhere; "You sluggish creature, you didn't stand up and paid respect while the preceptor entered. You didn't stand up while preceptor entered, it is a behave of serpent, so I give you a curse now; go and take a form of Python". Hearing the curse from Lord Shiva, the preceptor was terrified, he then prayed Lord Shiva for giving mercy and forgiveness for what the boy had done. Lord Shiva was very pleased with preceptor, he then appeared in front of him and asked for the boon. The preceptor asked politely to take the cursed back that was bestowed to his ignorant student, Bhusundi. Lord Shiva said, the curse can't be taken back but he could make the curse easier and less suffering for Kak Bhusundi. Lord Shiva told preceptor that Bhusundi will take thousand time re-birth in lower form of life, and every time Bhusundi takes new life, he will come and spare his sorrow. Bhusundi shouldn't suffer through the agony of birth & death, also he will not lose any awareness of his past births. Since, he is born in Ayodhya, and worshiping me, ultimately he will achieve the devotion of God Shri Rama. So, my curse will become a blessing for him.

After taking thousand re-birth in lower form of life, the effect of the Lord Shiva's curse was erased. Bhusundi then took birth in a Bhrahmin family. Because of his devotion on Lord Shiva for thousand life, he obtained the devotion & love of Shree Rama, hence he was born in a Brahmin family. From the childhood in this life, Bhusundi was only interested to learn about Shree Rama and his divine tales. He was not interested to learn about the secular things. All the worldly desires had left him, so he was interested to learn more about Shree Rama only.

After the death of his parents, Bhusundi went to forest to live as hermit where he met a sage, Lomasa. Lomasa was a great sage & renown scholar. Bhusundi requested Lomasa to teach him about how to worship Shree Rama and got path to his lotus feet. Lomasa was pleased with his request, then recited some virtues of Shree Rama and then started to get engaged into a long discourse about the formless spirit of supreme God. The knowledge that Lomasa was giving didn't appeal to Bhsundi, he didn't understand about unmanifest God and formless spirit, so he ignored his preaching. He then bowed in front of Lomasa and asked him to teach only about Shree Rama. He desperately wanted to know how to get Darshan of Shree Rama Prabhu. The argument grew up more, Lomasa then became furious and cursed him to become a crow. Bhusundi didn't become upset with Lomasa, he flew as crow joyfully.

Lord Shree Rama knew that his dear devotee got another curse, so he became angry with Lomasa and asked him to rectify his curse. Lomasa was afraid for his mistake, he called Bhusundi back and taught him the way of getting Raghunath. Kakbhusundi then got enlightened and flew to Nilgiri where he spent 27 Kalpas meditating and enchanting the name of Shree Rama.
